The meeting was called to order by President, Lynn Stephens.
Treasurer’s Report:
Balance on Hand: 09/17/2013 $6,942.32.
Saturday, August 31, 2013 Palestine Labor Day Celebration.
Income: Drink Sales $266.00, Sale of Books
$21.00, $100.00 for 3rd place in parade..
Expenses: Booth Fee $45.00, Ice $10.00 (This money
was returned to Chapter in the form of candy to pass out at
parade).
Secretary’s Report: The August 20, 2013 Minutes were presented and approved.
Palestine Labor Day Celebration:
August 31, 2013 CWAC Booth-- Swan Island and
LaMotte Trading Post artifacts were displayed. The public was very interested in
viewing, discussing, and learning about these excavation sites.
September 2, 2013 Labor Day Parade—CWAC Float was recognized with a 3rd place
award and $100. Silverthorne Chevrolet provided the vehicle that pulled the float in the parade.
A thank you letter was sent to Silverthorne Chevrolet for providing this
service. Candy was passed out during the parade. The chapter
wishes to express their appreciation to all who worked on the float, helped with
the booth on Saturday, and participated in the parade.
Printing of Excavation Reports:
The Huston/Dickson and Swan Island disposition reports are ready to print. It was decided to print 24 copies of
each report for these sites. In addition, it was decided to maintain an inventory of booklets of previous sites
at 12 copies per site. Lynn will print this material and the chapter members will help to assemble the
booklets. The chapter will pay for paper stock and printer ink. The booklets will be priced accordingly and sold.
The Crawford County Museum has a binder that may be used for the cost of the plastic binding strips.
Web Site: Members
are encouraged to visit the chapter web site. Wabash Archaeology.weebly.com. The chapter minutes are found soon after the
meeting and pictures of chapter activities are posted frequently. The home page had a mishap, and is lost in the great beyond
someplace. The home page has been reconstructed and is functioning.
Camp with the Rangers: September 14, 15, 2013 An event held at the Fort LaMotte Site
for Boy Scouts and Rangers was reported to be very successful.
Lynn Stephens shared artifacts and archaeological information with
attendees.
Leonard W. Blake Distinguished Amateur Award—Lynn Stephens has learned he is to be the recipient of
this Award from the Illinois Archaeological Survey Committee October 5, 2013. Our congratulation on this
recognition of Lynn’s work and service.
Heath Festival October 5, 2013:
It was decided to participate in the Health Toffee Festival Parade using the float from the Labor Day Parade. Rob
will move the float from his shop to Jim Keller’s building.
Darrell Richey will use his truck to pull the float. Marilyn Manning will submit the Parade entry form. Riders and walkers should be at the Robinson City Park at 12:30 P.M. The parade starting time is at 1:30
P.M. Candy ($30.) will be purchased to pass out during the parade route.
Crawford County Historical Museum:
has several special events scheduled in which the Archaeology Museum should have someone to discuss the
artifacts.

Winter Meetings:
Program topics were discussed. Rob Byrley
suggested a field trip to a place along the Wabash River that he is aware. Ancient fossils can be found at this
location.
The chapter will assemble site disposition booklets during selected winter
meetings.

$6,985.13 There had been no activity since the July 2013 meeting.
Secretary’s Report:
The July 16, 2013 Minutes were presented and approved.
A time line regarding John Houston and Palestine Lot 111 was passed out.
Houston/Dickson Site:
Lynn Stephens and Barb Ross met with Pat Schofield to examine the abstract for Lot
111 in Palestine. Copies of legal documents pertaining to Lot 111 has been
secured. A time line was developed concerning John Houston’s involvement with Palestine Lot 111.
Lynn has the file of document copies.
Thanks were expressed to Marie Davis for proof reading the report on the Houston/Dickson
Site. Copies of the Houston/Dickson Report has been submitted to Doug Jackson, Chairman of the
Illinois Association for Advancement of Archaeology Permanent Fund and Alice
Berkson, editor of the Illinois Antiquity.
Palestine Labor Day Celebration:
CWAC will have a booth at the Saturday, August 31, 2013 event.
The chapter will have artifacts on display and will sell Slushies.
The majority of the August meeting was devoted to assembling the float that will be in the
Labor Day Parade Sept 2, 2013
